Told $7,000 for a new gas main. Fixed for $1,800.
A customer had been told they could be facing a full gas main renewal. Josh found the actual leak instead.
The quote
The customer had been told they could be facing around $7,000 for a gas main renewal.
Something didn’t sit right
Something about the process didn’t sit right. Josh organised temporary hot water so the customer wasn’t left without it overnight, then returned the next day and spent time locating the actual leak.
The real problem
Repair the leak where it was, rather than replace the entire gas main.
The outcome
Repaired for around $1,800 — roughly $5,200 less than the full renewal.
Real feedback, straight from Google.

Plumbing & Gas FAQs
Can’t see your question? Josh is happy to talk it through.
Are you licensed for gas?
Yes. R&J is licensed for plumbing and gas work — licence PGE275151.
Do you install gas heaters or gas log fires?
No. R&J doesn’t currently offer space heating installation or maintenance, including gas log fires.
I can smell gas — what should I do?
If gas is burning, move to a safe location and call 000. If you suspect a leak inside, go outside at once; open doors and windows and extinguish open flames as you leave. Do not use flames, switches, appliances, fans or a phone indoors. Once outside, turn off the gas and electricity at the outdoor meters if safe, then call a licensed gas fitter from a mobile or ask a neighbour to call. Do not re-enter until the home has been inspected. For a leak at the street, verge, meter or pipework between the street and meter, call Australian Gas Networks on 1800 427 532, 24 hours a day. See the South Australian Government’s gas-leak guidance.
What if I’m not happy with the work?
Contact Josh with a description of the concern and photos if helpful. He can assess what is happening and explain the next step.
